A national award winner, an amazing singer, and an incredible artist – Rekha Bhardwaj is known for her soulful Sufi numbers as well as for her peppy tracks in films. She rose to fame after she sang the very popular song 'Namak Ishq Kaa’ from the film ‘Omkara’, 2006.
Her husky and rustic voice has lent a special quality to Sufi numbers and songs from films such as Omkara, Barfi! and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani — most of her renditions are penned by the lyrical maestro Gulzar.
She is the voice behind many popular songs like 'Kabira' and 'Ghagra' from ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, 'Raanjha Raanjha' from ‘Raavan’, 'Sasural Genda Phool’ from ‘Delhi 6’ and many more.
In 2010, she sang 'Ab Mujhe koi' and 'Badi Dheere Jali' for the film ‘Ishqiya’ for which she received the National Film Award for ‘Best Female Playback Singer’.
She also sang ‘Ladki’ composed by Sachin-Jigar for Coke Studio, and received much critical acclaim for it.
She won a National Film Award for ‘Best Female Playback Singer’ for the film ‘Ishqiya’ in 2010. She also won the Filmfare Award for ‘Best Female Playback Singer’ for the song ‘Darling’.
She also won the award for the ‘Best Female Playback Singer’ for her song ‘Sasural Genda Phool’ from ‘Delhi 6’ in 2009.
